How Two Industry Leaders Came Together and Became a Powerhouse.
In 1947, JT Walker saw a new opportunity for his small Florida aviation company. Shifting from aviation to manufacturing, he founded Metal Industries Inc., repurposing an airplane hangar and aircraft materials to produce aluminum-framed window screens. What began as a practical solution quickly became a growing business built on precision, craftsmanship, and reliability.
That foundation would become RiteScreen: the largest independent manufacturer of window and door screens in the U.S., with multiple strategically-located facilities serving OEMs, installers, and homeowners nationwide.
Decades later, innovation struck again—this time in a garage.
Joe Altieri began his career as an independent salesman in the window industry, finding the most success with window screens. But with rising sales came rising frustrations. After one customer dropped a pile of broken screens on the table and said, “You’re the screen guy, fix this!” Joe got to work.
He cleared space in his garage, listed everything people hated about traditional screens, and set out to solve it. The result was a completely reimagined frame: flexible, durable, and nearly indestructible. After years of prototypes and patents, FlexScreen was born: the world’s first and only flexible window screen.
The “bubble gum and duct tape” prototype grew into a multi-million-dollar company.
Accelerated by national exposure from multiple appearances on ABC’s Shark Tank, strategic partnerships, and breakthrough automation technology that redefined how window screens are manufactured.
In February 2025, RiteScreen and FlexScreen came together as FlexScreen / RiteScreen, uniting nearly 80 years of manufacturing expertise with bold, patented innovation. Today, as one company, we offer the broadest range of screen solutions in the industry, combining scale, precision, and forward-thinking design to help our partners move faster, work smarter, and deliver better products to their customers.
